Meet Your Documentary Wedding Photographers
Hi! I'm Emily.
My love of and training in photography has allowed me not just to take beautiful photos of couples at their weddings, but also the many facets of growing a family (maternity, birth, newborn, family portraits) and supporting local non-profit organizations with the gift of images. I am truly grateful to live the life of a photographer, and for the relationships I get to create with people like you.

Every couple I have photographed since 2016 has had different visions for their perfect wedding. From micro weddings to full day celebrations, they have all had one common thread running through; the imperative to document the true and real moments of the day.

This thread of authenticity is in everything I do, which is why I am so excited to work with you!
Hey! I'm John Paul.
I have been creating memorable documentary photography for clients for 20 years. I started my photography journey as a community photojournalist, honing my craft while capturing the emotion of everyday life. My passion for photography would later lead me to the far reaches of the churning Irish Sea and the Saharan desert.
However, I have photographed weddings across a great swath of our country, from more than a mile high in Colorado to the Kansas plains, of course, to Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, down into Tennessee and over to a beautiful venue overlooking the Potomac River in Virginia.

I enjoy photographing weddings like yours because I get to travel to all these places to witness and document some of the purest emotions happening on our planet on that day, those very moments between you and your family, you and your partner.
It would be an honor to be there on your wedding day to play a role in capturing your joyous union of souls, one click at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your working vibe?
I have been described as warm, accommodating, and adventurous, and I think that describes me well! I bring a calm energy to the day (because let's face it, you have plenty to think about without having a high-strung photographer in the mix!). I get along amazingly with parents and children, feel very at home joking around with the groomsmen, and can get those big family photos done efficiently. Being a documentary photographer, I step back and let the day unfold organically, while also making time for formal portraits of family and the couple. You get the best of both worlds!

Do you deliver digital or print images?
Images are digital and high resolution, and delivered in a private online gallery for download no later than 4 weeks after your event. I also give my clients a full printing release, so you can print images wherever you like!

Do your wedding collections include editing?
Absolutely. Every image is inspected for color correction, proper exposures, cropping, etc. The colors you see in your images are the closest representation to reality, and for this reason I do not use filters or AI to add things like lens flares that weren't actually there. In rare cases, I will also do minimal photoshopping to remove that pesky day-of pimple!

What happens if your equipment gets damaged or stops working?
We bring backup cameras and lenses, extra batteries and memory cards, and all images are immediately uploaded to both an external hard drive and computer once we get home. In the unlikely case that even that fails, the contract outlines a return of fees paid according to the percentage of images lost. In the many, many years we have been photographing weddings, our gear has not been damaged or stopped working while at an event (knock on wood).

What happens if you get sick and can't photograph my wedding?
The health and safety of my clients and their families is paramount, and thankfully I've never had to cancel a wedding due to sickness! If that did occur, however, I have an amazing network of backup photographers (one of whom is my incredibly talented husband). In the most unlikely scenario that none of them are available, my clients receive a full refund.

Will you use my images for advertising?
Showcasing examples of my work is a major component of booking future clients! Photos may be shown on social media posts, my website, sites like Wedding Wire and The Knot, and on printouts/slideshows at local wedding expos. I honor written requests from my clients who don't wish to have their images used.

Do you have travel fees?
For weddings within a one-hour drive of Lawrence, KS, we do not charge travel fees. Locations outside of that range may have additional fees to help cover the cost of gas or overnight stays.
