Meet Your Documentary Wedding Photographers

Hi! I'm Emily.
I'm the owner and head photographer of this lovely business, and I am so happy you are here.
It's no secret there are a lot (and I mean, a lot) of photographers out there. As you are planning your wedding, you are likely wanting to know what sets me apart from the crowd. I would say, first and foremost, it's my appreciation of real moments, real emotions, and real people.
We live in a world of filters, AI, contorted poses, and a deep scrutiny of whether an image is worthy of being posted to social media. I say, to hell with all that. Authenticity is beauty, and if you are bold enough to live your life in the skin you're in, then I want to take your picture and tell your story.

Hey! I'm John.
I started my photography journey 20 years ago as a community photojournalist, honing my craft while capturing the emotion of everyday life. My passion for photography would later lead me to the far reaches of the churning Irish Sea and the Saharan desert.
I have photographed weddings across a great swath of our country, from more than a mile high in Colorado to the Kansas plains, of course, to Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, down into Tennessee and over to a beautiful venue overlooking the Potomac River in Virginia.
I enjoy photographing weddings like yours because I get to travel to all these places to witness and document some of the purest emotions happening on our planet on that day, those very moments between you and your family, you and your partner.
My Stats:

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your working style?
We have been described as warm, accommodating, and adventurous, and we bring a calm energy to the day. We get along amazingly with parents and children, feel very at home joking around with the groomsmen, and can get those big family photos done efficiently. Being documentary photographers, we step back and let the day unfold organically, while also making time for formal portraits of family and the couple.
Do you deliver digital or print images?
Images are digital and high resolution, and delivered in a private online gallery for download no later than 4 weeks after your event. Clients are also given a full printing release, so you can print images wherever you like.
Do your wedding collection prices include editing?
Absolutely. Every image is inspected for color correction, proper exposures, cropping, etc. The colors you see in your images are the closest representation to reality, and for this reason we do not use trendy filters or AI to add things like lens flares that weren't actually there. In rare cases, we will also do minimal photoshopping to tame fly-aways or remove that pesky day-of pimple, so you can focus on appreciating the beautiful moments captured in each photo.
What happens if your equipment gets damaged or stops working?
We bring backup cameras and lenses, extra batteries and memory cards, and all images are immediately uploaded to both an external hard drive and computer after the event. In the very unlikely case that even that fails, the contract outlines a return of fees paid according to the percentage of images lost. In the many, many years we have been photographing weddings, our gear has not been damaged or stopped working while at an event, but either way we have you covered.
What happens if you get sick and can't photograph my wedding?
The health and safety of our clients and their families is paramount, and thankfully we've never had to cancel a wedding due to sickness. If that did occur, however, we have an amazing network of photographers who are ready to step in and photograph your event. In the most unlikely scenario that none of them are available, our clients receive a full refund.
Will you use my images for advertising?
Showcasing examples of our work is a major component of booking future clients. Photos may be shown on social media posts, this website, sites like Wedding Wire and The Knot, and on printouts/slideshows at local wedding expos. I honor written requests from my clients who don't wish to have their images used.
Do you have travel fees?
For weddings within a one-hour drive of Lawrence, KS, we do not charge travel fees. Locations outside of that range may have additional fees to help cover the cost of gas or overnight stays.
